Amelia Gray's best tights looks: sheer black, red, fishnet and print, from Vogue covers to the runway
From the Met Gala in red lace to Vogue Italia in sheer black and Perfect in fishnets: twelve Amelia Gray looks, from her own Instagram, where the tights do the work.

Some models wear tights when a stylist hands them over. Amelia Gray seems to wear them whenever she can. Scroll through her Instagram and they turn up on magazine covers, at the Met Gala, on the runway and in the street: sheer black under fur, red lace with Valentino, fishnets for two different magazines, opaque white for Dazed, florals on a pink chaise longue.
It is a curious habit for someone who told Numéro that her own style is "really simple", baggy jeans and flat shoes, and that she "almost never" wears heels. Off duty, maybe. On set and on the carpet, the legs are almost always covered. We went through her grid and picked the twelve looks where the tights do the most work, grouped by type, with how to wear each one.
A note on sources: almost none of these tights are credited. The captions name the designers, the photographers and the stylists, not the hosiery. Where we describe colour, sheerness or denier, that is our reading of the photos.
Sheer black, her signature
If Amelia Gray has a uniform, it is a sheer black tight with a pointed shoe.
For the 60th anniversary of Vogue Italia, the magazine dressed her in total Versace for its "no social media" party, with Ray-Ban Mega Balorama sunglasses, and photographed her for the issue on newsstands from 28 November 2024. The portrait by Rafael Pavarotti is all shine on top, a liquid metallic dress, and a thin veil of black from the hem down to pointed pumps.
Two months earlier, in Paris, she posted a series captioned only with YSL and Anthony Vaccarello: a long brown fur, sheer black tights and pointed heels, crouched on the pavement. It is the Saint Laurent formula we wrote about in our piece on sheer black tights back on the red carpet, worn by one of the house's own.
For Harper's Bazaar US, photographed by Ethan James Green and styled by Carlos Nazario in January 2024, the same idea went harder: an oversized black blazer, almost nothing else, sheer black tights and tall black boots.
Red, head to toe
Her most famous tights moment is red. At the 2025 Met Gala she wore custom Valentino by Alessandro Michele, which she called "your dandy vision". A report on AOL describes "a red lacy bodysuit by Valentino" with sunglasses and a dramatic train. In the photos she posted, the lace continues down the legs as red lace stockings, with a band of bare thigh between the bodysuit and the lace tops. It is lace on lace, tonal from neck to toe, the same idea Calzedonia uses in black in its new campaign with Hailey Bieber.
On the September 2025 cover of Vogue España, shot by Sean and Seng and styled by Harry Lambert, she wears "total look Chanel", according to the magazine: a red bouclé dress, gold chains and opaque red tights to match. One colour from shoulder to foot is the easiest way to make red tights look deliberate rather than costume.
For Perfect's Issue 6, in a story called The 100 Club, David Bailey photographed her in a red bikini, red thigh-high stockings and red pumps, with fashion by Emilio Pucci and Camille Miceli. It is the most graphic image of the lot: almost all skin, with the colour concentrated on the legs.
Fishnets, twice
Two magazines, two years apart, the same answer. For V Magazine in January 2024, photographed by Jack Bridgland with Nicola Formichetti, she wore wide-mesh black fishnets with black boots, long gloves and a bra top. For the cover of Perfect Issue 10, in February 2026, Bryce Anderson photographed her crouched in black fishnets and loafers, with a blunt fringe.
Both pictures pair the net with a flat or chunky shoe rather than a stiletto, which is what keeps it fashion rather than burlesque. Our guide to fishnet tights explains how mesh size changes the effect.
White and nude
The quietest looks are the lightest. On her Dazed cover of March 2025, photographed by Xiangyu Liu, she sits among Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami bags in a grey vest, a short skirt and opaque white tights with platform shoes. White tights are hard to wear because they show every proportion; with a short hem and a chunky shoe they look like a doll, on purpose.
Her Miu Miu debut, announced in March 2023, went the other way. Hypebae writes that she walked the Fall/Winter 2023 show "wearing a black turtleneck and sequinned hotpants", and returned for the campaign in the same look. In the video she posted, the hotpants sit over sheer nude tights, the brand's favourite trick that season: the tights disappear and the briefs become the outfit.
Colour and print
Inside the same Vogue España story, the Chanel red gives way to print: she lies on a pink satin chaise in a pastel floral dress and printed floral tights in yellow, green and pink, with pale pointed shoes. The tights are not credited.
On the runway, colour came early. At Richard Quinn in London in September 2022, a show she called "really important" to her, she walked in a white coat printed with pink and green roses over glossy emerald-green tights: the leg picks the green out of the print, the simplest way to wear colour.
The one with a credit
In all these posts the hosiery is anonymous. The one time we found it credited is an editorial for Interview in December 2022, photographed by Katja Rahlwes and styled by Mel Ottenberg, in which she tried on looks "fresh off the Paris runways": the credit reads "Top By Schiaparelli Haute Couture. Tights By Wolford." It fits the pattern. Wolford is also the brand behind the tights her friend Kylie Jenner wore for Wonderland, in the issue where Gray wrote a few lines about her.
How to copy her
- Sheer black, 15 to 20 denier, with pointed shoes. It is her default, and it works under fur, leather or a single blazer. Our denier guide explains why 15 to 20 is the weight where the skin still shows.
- Red with red. Her red tights are never a lone accent: lace bodysuit, Chanel dress, red bikini and red pumps. If the tights are red, put the same red somewhere else, or everywhere.
- Fishnets with flat or heavy shoes. Boots and loafers, not stilettos.
- White only with a short hem and a solid shoe. Opaque, not sheer, and a platform or a block heel to balance the leg.
- Print and colour: take one colour from the clothes. Green tights under a rose print, florals under florals.
- Thigh-highs are their own family. The Met Gala and Perfect looks are stockings, not tights: if you want the band of skin, read our guide to hold-ups, stockings and over-the-knee socks.
None of her tights are credited apart from the Wolford pair for Interview, so the box below lists similar pairs we chose ourselves.
The photos
All the images on this page are Instagram posts embedded from the accounts of Amelia Gray, Vogue Italia, Vogue España and Perfect Magazine, with their credits; they stay on Instagram's servers.
