Bianca Balti on GialappaShow: ivory tights with a seam that runs to the toe

Bianca Balti co-hosted the second episode of the new GialappaShow, the Italian comedy show from the Gialappa's Band, on Monday 26 October on TV8, next to Mago Forest. For the official photo she chose a black knit mini dress and a pair of tights you notice at once: sheer ivory, almost white, with a visible seam down the front of the leg that runs all the way to the toe. Nobody has credited them, so here is what the photos show and how to copy it.

The look: black dress, light legs

The episode aired at 9.30pm on TV8, simulcast on Sky and streamed on NOW. In the photo released by the press office and published by Sky TG24, taken by Jule Hering, Bianca Balti poses under the GialappaShow sign with her arm resting on Mago Forest's shoulder:

• a black knit mini dress with long sleeves and a deep neckline buttoned down the front, with a nude bra just showing;
• sheer ivory tights with a sheen and a visible seam on each leg;
• pointed pumps in the same shade as the tights.

A seam down the front

The unusual detail is where the seam sits. On seamed tights, the 1940s and 1950s kind, the seam runs down the back of the leg, from the calf to the heel. Here, in the full-length photo, it is on the front: it starts at the hem of the dress, runs down the shin and carries on over the instep to the toe of the pump.

That is our reading of the photos, and it leaves two possibilities. One: tights with a built-in shoe, where fabric and shoe are a single piece and the seam can carry on over the upper. Two: seamed tights with nude pumps in the same shade, so close to the leg colour that they look like a continuation of the tights. In the episode photos posted by the Gialappa's Band on 27 October, at the Caffè Letterario with her legs crossed on the sofa, you can see the same tights and pale pointed pumps with a dark edge and a slingback-style opening at the heel. You can't tell whether shoes and tights are one piece, and neither the show nor Bianca Balti has named the brand or a stylist.

Why it works

The look is all contrast: black on top, a light, glossy leg below, with no break between tights and shoe. The seam does the rest, drawing a vertical line from thigh to toe and lengthening the figure. It is the nude-pump trick, taken into the tights.

How to copy it

The exact pair is unknown, so the picks above are our alternatives, marked "similar".

• The seam. Seamed tights almost always have the seam at the back: Calzedonia's Sheer 20 Denier Back Seam Tights (€12.95, black on the Italian site) and Wolford's Individual 10 Back Seam, 10 denier sheers with the seam at the back. A front seam is rare: back-seam tights worn back to front put it on the front, but the gusset and reinforced toe end up in the wrong place.
• The shoe. Pointed pumps in nude or ivory, as close as you can get to the shade of the tights, so the leg seems to run to the toe.
• The built-in shoe effect. If you want the single piece, Calzedonia sells tights with an integrated shoe, pointed toe and 10cm heel: the Lace Shoe Tights ($129), in black.
• The dress. Black, short and simple: the light tights should be the only bright spot.
