A black sleeveless mini, a gold collar, and below the hem a veil of black that runs all the way to the toes, visible even inside the shoe. At the party for the launch of Revolve's magazine, in Paris on 29 September 2026, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley turned a pair of sheer black tights into the most interesting part of a deliberately minimal look. The reason is on her feet: pointed slingbacks with clear uppers, which leave the tights on show to the very end.

Here is what the sources say about the dress and the night, what we know about the tights and what we don't, and how to wear the same combination.

The night: Revolve in Paris, after Saint Laurent

Revolve, the Los Angeles online retailer, celebrated the new issue of its magazine in Paris during Paris Fashion Week, with Kendall Jenner on the cover, according to Red Carpet Fashion Awards. The Getty Images captions date the photocall to 29 September 2026.

For Rosie Huntington-Whiteley it was the second stop of the day. Hello! reports that she had attended Anthony Vaccarello's Saint Laurent spring/summer 2027 show at the Trocadéro that day, and that "following the show" she went on to the Revolve photocall. In her own Instagram carousel of the week she put it this way: "Stopped by the @revolve.losangeles party for a little after-hours fun."

The look: Revolve Los Angeles, a gold collar, clear slingbacks

The dress is the Odelie mini from Revolve Los Angeles, the retailer's own label: Red Carpet Fashion Awards says so, describes "the metal hardware built into the neckline" and adds that the dress sold out afterwards. Hello! calls it a black mini dress "that exuded 90s minimalism", sleeveless and figure-hugging, "styled with sheer stockings and a chunky gold necklace". The two sources read the gold collar differently, a necklace for Hello!, part of the dress for Red Carpet Fashion Awards; the photos don't settle it.

The Getty Images photos fill in the rest. From top to toe: hair in a low, sleek bun, gold link earrings, the gold collar at the neck, the matte black dress with a crew neck that opens into a deep scoop at the back and ends mid-thigh. On her feet, pointed slingbacks on a slim stiletto, with a black toe cap and heel and a clear upper. Arriving outside, she also wore black sunglasses. None of the official sources we read credits the shoes.

The tights: what we know and what we don't

The sources agree on one thing only: the tights are sheer and black. None names a brand, a style or a denier, and Revolve has not credited them. In the photos the veil is very light, the skin shows clearly at the knee and shin, and the finish is matte, with no seam, pattern or logo: we read them at around 10 to 15 denier. That is our reading of the pictures, not a credit.

One thing the photos don't tell us is whether the toe was reinforced or sheer. With this kind of shoe it matters, because a reinforced toe stays visible inside the clear upper. At photocall resolution, it can't be made out.

The shop the look box lists two pairs we chose ourselves, both marked "similar": Falke's Shelina 12, ultra-sheer and matte, and Calzedonia's Matt Totally Invisible 20, a slightly tougher alternative.

Why it works: a shoe that lets the tights speak

With a solid black pump, sheer black tights stop at the ankle and the shoe does the rest. With a clear upper the opposite happens: the veil carries on to the toes and becomes the line that finishes the look. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley took everything else away, no colour, no print, one strong piece of jewellery, and so the tights, usually a detail, became the thing you notice.

It is an idea Paris also saw on the runway: the return of sheer black runs straight through Saint Laurent, the show she had been to a few hours earlier. And on the October red carpets the same light black came back with Charli XCX, who wore it under a Balmain leather blazer.

How to wear it

  • Choose 10 to 15 denier, matte. Under 10 the veil barely shows and ladders at a glance; over 20 the skin disappears and, with a clear shoe, the effect gets heavy. Our denier guide explains the scale.
  • With clear shoes, check the toe. If the tights have a reinforced toe, you will see a darker patch through the vinyl. For an even veil, look for a sandal toe or a fine toe.
  • One plain black dress. A sleeveless mini, a matte fabric, no print: the tights are already the detail. For the other colours that work under black, see our guide to what colour tights to wear with a black dress.
  • One big piece of gold. A collar or a rigid cuff balances the lightness of the legs; several small pieces dilute the effect.
  • Carry a spare pair. A 10 denier tight ladders easily, and on black the run shows. A few rules on how to stop tights laddering help, but a second pair in the bag helps more.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Nude tights with clear shoes. With a black dress the leg splits into two colours; sheer black holds hem and shoe together.
  • Shiny tights. The vinyl upper already catches the light: a satin tight adds a second reflection and the foot starts to look like plastic.
  • Clear shoes with a round toe or a platform. The trick works with a sharp point and a slim heel, which lengthen the line of the veil.

A black dress, a gold collar and a veil that reaches the toes: for a winter evening, just leave the sunglasses at home.
