Ariana Grande's tights: fishnet, yellow, white, ivory lace and argyle, every era in a colour

Ariana Grande does not treat tights as a background. She changes their colour with every era, the way she changes her hair: black and fishnet for the Positions years, yellow in full Versace, pale taupe and white once she became Glinda, ivory lace under a black puffer, Thom Browne argyle under a man's shirt. Here are her tights looks in order, with what has been credited and what has not.

Fishnet and Wolford: the "34+35" era (2021)

In January 2021, promoting the "34+35" remix with Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion, Grande posted an all-black look: a scoop-neck bodysuit, black fishnet tights and patent pumps with a pointed toe and a stiletto of around four inches, as Footwear News described it on 19 January.

For the remix video, released in February, the tights became sheer. Under a black lace Victoria's Secret bodysuit with a cut-out bodice she wore, Footwear News wrote on 11 February, "$35 Wolford satin tights": the Wolford Satin Touch 20, a 20 denier with a satin sheen. On her feet, Giuseppe Zanotti patent sandals with a block heel of about five inches.

Printed yellow: Versace on The Late Late Show (June 2021)

On 15 June 2021, on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Grande sang "No Lockdowns Anymore", a Hairspray parody on cities reopening. She was in yellow from head to toe: a short-sleeved Versace minidress, "printed semi-sheer tights" in the same yellow, and Versace satin platform pumps with a heel of more than six inches (Footwear News, 16 June). It is the most colourful pair of tights she has worn on television, and it works for one reason: dress, tights and shoes are the same colour, so the leg reads as one long line.

Sheer black on The Voice (September 2021)

For her first episode as a judge on NBC's The Voice, in September 2021, Grande wore a glittering flapper-style black minidress "layered with sheer black tights" and black peep-toe platform pumps of about six inches (Footwear News, 17 September). Neither the dress nor the tights were credited. It is the formula she has repeated most since: a very short black hem, sheer black tights, a very high black shoe.

Taupe and white: the Glinda years (2024)

With Wicked, the colour on her legs changed too.

• January 2024, "yes, and?" video. A black and white cut-out Rodarte leotard, a black Alaïa skirt, sheer tights and low-heeled pumps, a nod to Paula Abdul's "Cold Hearted", as Marie Claire noted.
• February 2024, pink Balenciaga. On Instagram, a floor-length pale pink Balenciaga gown covered in sheer bows. Stylist Mimi Cuttrell added matching silky pumps and "contrasting pale taupe tights" (Marie Claire, 5 February).
• October 2024, Sandy Liang. In a photo dump, a baby-blue gingham Sandy Liang mini set straight from the Spring/Summer 2025 runway, with "sheer white tights" and the brand's pink satin ballet slingbacks, $625 (Marie Claire, 1 November). Pale tights with pale shoes: the Glinda version of the yellow trick.
• 14 November 2024, New York. After the Wicked premiere at MoMA, for the after-party, a Leset coat with "transparent black tights" and black leather pumps (Harper's Bazaar, 15 November).

Ivory lace under a puffer: Tokyo (February 2025)

On 18 February 2025 Grande landed at Haneda Airport in Tokyo in an ankle-length black puffer that Marie Claire identified as Norma Kamali's sleeping bag coat. Below the hem, the surprise: ivory lace tights and cream Valentino Garavani Bowow pumps with a 45 mm heel and a bow on the toe, $1,050. You can see them in the Getty photo at the top of the article. Marie Claire paired the look with Calzedonia lace tights to shop, but that is a suggestion, not a credit: the brand of Grande's tights is not known. Argyle by Thom Browne: Interview (November 2025)

For a behind-the-scenes post from Interview magazine's winter cover shoot, in which she answers the Warhol questionnaire, Grande wore only an oversized light-blue Thom Browne shirt from Spring/Summer 2026 and, as legwear, Thom Browne's Funmix Argyle Sheer Tights, sheer tights with two contrasting argyle patterns (theFashionSpot, 29 November 2025). They are the tights in this list that are easiest to identify: they are on sale on the brand's site at $200.

On stage: the Eternal Sunshine tour (2026)

The Eternal Sunshine tour opened in Oakland on 6 June 2026 and closed at the O2 in London on 1 September, after 41 shows, with six custom looks curated by Law Roach (Wikipedia, Vogue). Tights appear in two of them:

• The opening act ("yes, and?", "the boy is mine"): a custom black lace Ludovic de Saint Sernin mini dress, worn "with tights and red-bottomed platform stiletto boots" by Christian Louboutin, according to Short and Sweet. In July, Reality Tea described the same act with "fishnet stockings and knee-length boots".
• Act four ("Dangerous Woman"): an off-the-shoulder purple and black Vivienne Westwood gown, with "sheer opera gloves and tights" and Louboutin boots.

The tights: what we know and what we don't

Only two pairs have a credit: the Wolford Satin Touch 20 of the "34+35" remix (Footwear News) and the Thom Browne Funmix Argyle of the Interview shoot. For all the others, sheer black, printed yellow, taupe, white, ivory lace and the tour tights, the brand has not been credited. Where we describe the denier, it is our reading of the photos: the sheer black of The Voice and the tour looks like 15 to 20 denier, the white of the Sandy Liang look the same.

Why it works

Grande dresses for the character, and her tights are the most practical way to change character without changing silhouette. The silhouette stays the same, a very short hem and a very high shoe, from The Voice to the tour. What changes is the colour of the leg: black for the pop star, white and taupe for Glinda, yellow for a parody, ivory for the airport. It is a lesson that works for anyone, because changing the colour of the tights changes the whole outfit.

How to wear tights like Ariana

• Match the tights to the outfit. Yellow dress, yellow tights, yellow shoes: one colour from head to toe makes the leg look longer. It works with any colour.
• A short hem, a long boot. Her stage formula: a mini dress, sheer black tights of 15–20 denier, over-the-knee or knee-high platform boots.
• Light tights, light shoes. White or ivory tights want white, cream or pale pink shoes, like the Sandy Liang flats or the Valentino bow pumps. A black shoe would cut the leg in two.
• Lace under something plain. Ivory lace looks best under a simple, dark coat, as it did in Tokyo: the pattern needs a quiet background.
• One pattern, never two. Argyle tights with a plain shirt; fishnet with a plain black bodysuit.
